Last we my daughter and I decided to take a hike into the Laughing Whitefish Falls and try our hand at fishing bellow the falls. Neither us us had ever been there before so we hauled everything. Cameras, fishing poles, extra bait, lunch, the works. The drive into the falls was beautiful as was the trail in. But alas when we were heading into the falls we realized that we'd left our bug dope at the house. The mosquitoes nearly ate us alive.
The trail into the falls is well groomed and pretty level all the way into the falls, but unlike one of the guides I read it does not meander through a field. Some of the guides glorify everything. The woods are beautiful and this time of year everything it coming to life.
Trillium
When you make it to the falls, about a half mile walk, you are right at the very top of the falls. This is when you realize just how high these falls are. My daughter and I headed up stream from the falls to see if there were any trout to be had. There weren't so we headed down the stairwell to the base of the falls. Going down was easy! We reached the base of the falls and took some pictures and video.
Laughing Whitefish Falls
The Laughing Whitefish River bellow the falls is pretty rugged with lots of debris. The only fish we caught were Creek Chubs so fishing was a bust. For those that are out of shape like I am there are a lot of stairs leading up from the base of the falls. There are several benches on the way up to give you a rest. As a challenge, I made it to the last bench before I had to stop.
If you do go to the falls, make sure you bring your bug spray..............you'll need it!
